NETWORK OF GREEN ROUTES IN THE HANIA PREFECTURE

The Prefecture of Hania with its beautiful natural environmental resources, receives even more visitors each year, who wish to either hike or climb. The Greek Mountaineering Club of Hania in its effort to promote this region for visitors has introduced hiking routes that differ from those of the E4 trails. They have now signed these ten (10) new routes that are in the wider region of Lefka Ori, as well as in the semi-mountainous regions of the prefecture.

The signing of the routes was conducted with the support of the operational program of the community initiative LEADER + and the help of O.A.DY.K. These routes were characterised as a Network of Green Routes in the Hania Prefecture. They will function additionally to the E4 trails and constitute the first core of a planed wider network of trails, which The Greek Mountaineering Club tries to make widely known.

The trails are easy to hike and we believe that they will help the tourist development of the inland. Each route has different signs, easily recognisable and bi-directional, with colourful geometric forms, the signs of 15 x 15 centimetres are in squares with a white background.

The signs have been placed on trees or on stable stones and rocks or even on pillars of chestnut trees next to each path. Also, where possible, paint has been used to make signs in the same colour and form for each route. Maps with detailed information will be placed at the starting point and end of each route.

You will be able to tell from the length of the duration as to your capabilities however, please take the required equipment and also take into consideration that there is always a possibility of adverse weather conditions. I strongly recommend you check first with the Mountain Club as to the difficulties of each route (see below) and perhaps even let them know when you intend to go. They also have expeditions which you are most welcome to join.
